Seeing Smith open in the IPL and seeing him slog

 In 2020 IPL in certain matches Steve Smith opened for his team, I felt that it was a decent move considering that his team was losing matches. Steve was not used to batting in the power plays from ball one.


What  shocked me most was that he turned out to be a failure opening the batting. He got restless and too soon he started to slog across the line, the method and calmness was lost. 



When Steve Smith was struggling in his opening slot, Ben stokes was flourishing in this role. The way he batted in the IPL 2020, I calculated that Ben Stokes opening in t20 and fifty over format would boost the English team in a big way. In this IPL Ben Stokes on his sole effort  won his team a string of matches.



 Initially I was not so sure how Ben Stokes would turn up. Stokes has both defensive and attacking style of play unlike that of Butler or Roy. We can predict how Butler or Roy would approach their inning. Ben Stokes mixed his defensive play with attacking shots, the reason he was able to amass huge score with strikingly beautiful strike rate from batting perspective.  


Likewise  Wriddhiman Shah unearthed a major surprise opening the batting. He was thrown in the opening position as a pinch hitter for a quick fire twenty in eight or ten balls. But he gracefully accepted the new positon to produce  half- centuries in not more that twenty five or  thirty delivery. This showed how much substance Wriddhiman Shah has which he himself has not allowed to materialize by his conservative play. Seeing Wriddhiman shah succeed in the opening position was one of the  soothing experience for me in the IPL 2020. Wriddhiman Shah managed with his shot making to take advantage of the power plays, while certain batter get trapped by too many fielders in the inner ring. Steve Smith was trapped.  


Considering the fact that India's middle order is weak in the fifty over format, having Wriddhiman Shah  open and pushing Rohit sharma to three or four would turn muscular India's soft belly of the middle order.

Reading Harari's sapiens with method of adaptation

  Y N Harari’s tunes are operating everywhere these days. His work and name also reached me. His works are in   the domain of history, thus I was reluctant to get hold of his book out of caution that the book would have less ideas and argument and more details which would not have pragmatic value to me.   Instead of Harari I was reading Anders Ericson, Rober Bjork et.al . I loved how Harari’s   book opened.
